November 2015
PERSWADE's Program Director along with its co-applicants, industrial and academic partners made their great efforts at bringing to Montreal the IEEE ICUWB 2015 under the theme Wireless Highways to the Digital Economies & Smart Societies. This event offered PERSWADE's students precious and unique opportunities for networking, broadening their knowledge, hearing from top experts and interacting with them, etc., and playing their volunteering roles. Great contributions from PERSWADE's community and trainees made a big success of ICUWB 2015.

September 2014
First call for application to the PERSWADE Program. By integrating this program, students will benefit from cutting-edge internships, lectures and workshops on topical industry issues like the sustainable economy, intellectual property, standardization, and more industry-oriented research projects that address interdisciplinary wireless integration challenges in the digital economy. For more information please visit the Perswade website (www.create-perswade.ca).

August 2013
Professor Sofiène Affes with INRS’s Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Research Centre teamed up with top-notch researchers from five Montreal universities - INRS, ÉTS, Polytechnique Montréal, Concordia, and McGill - and ten industry partners to launch the PERSWADE (Pervasive and Smart Wireless Applications for the Digital Economy) program- the first in Canada to explore smart wireless communications and its pervasive applications in all industrial sectors of the 21st digital economy. The only one and very first of its kind, this interdisciplinary program received upwards of M$1.6 in funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

May 2009

May 2009
Prof. Affes is promoted to the rank of full professor.

September 2008
Prof. Affes receives from the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society the "Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC) Chair Recognition Award" at the IEEE VTC-2008-Fall conference in Calgary with the following citation : "for exemplary contributions to the success of IEEE VTC".

May 2008
Prof. Affes is awarded a Discovery Accelerator Supplement by NSERC. This new program which funds only about 2% of applicants across all disciplines aims to "provide substantial and timely additional resources to accelerate progress and maximize the impact of outstanding research programs".

April 2008

Alex Stéphenne, a main collaborator in our team, is awarded a Discovery grant from NSERC; a prowess considering the fact that grant amounts were reduced by about 10% on average this year and that Dr Stéphenne submitted his grant application as an adjunct faculty in a tough competition with tenure-track professors.

March 2008

Renewal of the tier-II Canada research chair of prof. Affes for a 5 year period starting March 2008 under the theme “wireless communications”.

November 2007
Prof. Jacob Benesty, a main collaborator in our research team, publishes in collaboration with Dr. M. M. Sondhi, Avaya Research Labs, Basking Ridge, NJ, USA, and Dr. Y. Huang, Bell-Labs, Murray Hill, NJ, USA, a handbook entitled “Springer Handbook of Speech Processing.” This reference book covers the following topics:
- Introduction to Speech Processing.
- Production, Perception, and Modeling of Speech.
- Signal Processing for Speech.
- Speech Coding.
- Text-to-Speech Synthesis.
- Speech Recognition.
- Speaker Recognition.
- Language Recognition.
- Speech Enhancement.
